Grey's frustration part 1
Well now that I am slightly back in the groove of wanting to write let me get back to an issue of grave importance and that is TV in particular my favorite show "Grey's Anatomy". I've been hooked on Grey's pretty much from the start but right now I am beyond a little frustrated. First off I am not pleased with the idea of an Addison spin off. It has nothing to do with Addison as a character in fact I absolutely adore her. What started out as a character that you were supposed to hate because she was Derek's wife who broke his heart but then had the nerve to want him back once he moved on to Meredith was pretty much written in stone that you could never root for her. A funny thing happened mid way in season 2 I started to like her. Addison is a great doctor, smart, funny and beautiful. I would've been ok if she won Derek back but alas it wasn't meant to be so she was back on the market with the McSteamy in hot pursuit. Now back to the present where Addison had all the great flirty chemistry with Alex that I couldn't wait to see acted upon because poof my girl has now been elected for a spin off so no more I'm going strip Alex naked with my eyes if I stare any harder. I think taking Addison away from the core show is a mistake. She has grown way too important to the heart of the show. I was reading on another blog about taking a less central character and spinning them off and I actually think that is a better idea. Callie would make a great candidate because she's still not really liked. George's extended a family of interns has never warmed to her. The closest friend that she has is Addison. Now with the reveal that she is wealthy it creates some interesting back story. Callie's dad was played by the Hector Elizondo and just from his brief appearance I can get that she comes from a very traditional Latin family. When Callie was introduced, she was living in the hospital basement so meeting her dad opens the idea of some possible estrangement with her family due to career choice or perhaps another man that the family didn't approve that left her heartbroken. I'm going to give the Addison spin off chance but a part of me is hoping that it's not picked up so Addison can stay and stare at Alex like he is filet mignon.

Shouldn't this bother anyone?
I'm not sure if this story got any national attention, but it should have. Last week the St Louis school district lost their accreditation due an ongoing budget crisis. Why isn't this a bigger story? I have never been to St.Louis and I don't have kids but this bothers me. I'm not sure what the racial make-up of the school district is but I think that I can make the safe assumption that's majority African American. So why aren't the so called leaders discussing or protesting the loss of accreditation? These are our kids. This potentially impacts their ability to attend higher education and the response has been silence so far. Isn't Nelly so proud to be from "The Lou", so why isn't he speaking out, it's his home town. Maybe he has more credit cards to swipe down girl's booties and can't be bothered. Oprah isn't that far removed from St. Louis why isn't she doing a show to bring attention to our educational crisis here. No she would rather spend her money in South Africa because we don't value education in this country. Al and Jesse are probably too busy protesting Cracker Barrel on behalf of Chris Rock's mom to be concerned. Well I know there isn't much I can do but bring the story to anyone who will listen. Hopefully someone will stumble across my ramblings and keep talking about it maybe then we can get come up with solution, because if it can happen in St. Louis, it can happen anywhere.

Memories of Street Life
One of my favorite songs when I was about 8 years old was Street Life. Randy Crawford was the vocalist but the song appeared on The Crusaders album. I was going through my itunes library and decided to play it tonight. It always amazes me when I listen to the song now because the lyrics of the song were not appropriate for an 8 year old, but I would sing my heart out right along with Randy. Most of the time I sang only the chorus and "prince charming only smiles behind a silver moon". Of course I now know that the prince was smiling behind a silver spoon and what that really means in terms of the street. Even now that lyric seems tame compared to the pimp and ho tales that our in what passes for music now. Street Life is a great song. Randy's voice was so smooth. The arrangement just sweeps over you and it's like listening to a movie. The music now doesn't seem to have that same vibrancy. It just feels packaged, shallow, and uninspired. Perhaps there is an 8 year old girl out there now singing a lyrically inappropriate song like oh I don't know Fergalicious with all of her heart because she just loves it but will she be able to remember it with same fondness that I have for Street Life.
